FDR had a supermajority in both the House and Senate. Democrats had the power (given by the people) to essentially force the Supreme Court’s hand (checks and balances). THAT is what a mandate looks like.

Trump has no mandate.

One thing that stood out when I interviewed Tarek Mansour, CEO of Kalshi, is that ppl place bets on hurricanes battering their counties as a hedge against disaster, because they can't get home insurance where hurricanes are common.
I’ve been hearing that people with no home insurance are hedging against natural disasters by placing bets on weather events in states like Florida. It’s amazing. To illustrate it: We have this phone line that we don’t really use, but we put it online at some point two years ago, and every time around hurricane season, people start calling that phone line. The people calling aren’t traders or terminally online types. It’s people who live in the Florida Keys, or New Orleans—areas where there are a lot of hurricanes. The impacts are catastrophic; insurance companies have pulled out because it’s hard to underwrite that risk. But these risks really effectively are markets. So people start calling about putting on a hedge. “If a hurricane hits the county, I want to hedge $20,000 or sometimes $100,000,” and it’s awesome because what they want is something that pays fast, with a very clear resolution criteria. But most important, they want something to be underwritten because the insurance companies are not doing it. These are just hurricanes. We’re not even talking about tariffs. We’re not talking about bills being passed that people are exposed to. You have a whole set of risks that people are exposed to in their day-to-day that they can offload and can hedge instead of just taking them on and dealing with the financial consequence.
