Kicked off my Pride Month reading with THE REBEL’S GUIDE TO PRIDE by @matthewhubbard.bsky.social, and I don’t think I could have chosen a better book given the current state of our country.

It had me at Pride Speakeasies, but this is a great coming of age story, and perfect for Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🌈

February 25 Recap

A trend: 5 books finished again this month. I did DNF one, Summer in February by Jonathan Smith. I’m trying to read a book each month with that month in the title, but this one just wasn’t working for me, so I decided to set it aside.

Everything else was top notch!

Finally snagged the first Tor Nightfire release of the year: a creeptastic repackage of William Peter Blatty’s Legion, the sequel to The Exorcist. I’ll be expecting some weird AF dreams when I settle in with this one. 😆😆😆

The Reign of the Empire starts today!

Star Wars: Reign of the Empire: The Mask of Fear by Alexander Freed dropped today, & I’ve already started the audiobook. I’ve looked forward to this trilogy, chronicling the rise of the Empire, as seen thru the eyes of Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, & Saw Gerrera.

January 25 Recap

I read 5 books total this month, & while that’s less than I normally read, I decided to do away with a goal this year & just read what I want. My goal felt like I was pressuring myself to read, instead of reading for enjoyment. So, less books, but more joy in reading.

As with many other quiet, comforting Japanese books that I have read recently, this is like a warm hug. A small cast of cafe regulars take us on a time traveling journey of love, understanding, and acceptance.

A story inside a story, this is a brilliant piece of meta science fiction, tackling subjects such as family, disability, fame, and the pitfalls of AI, with an unexpected finale I did not see coming.
