As teachers we lead by example and can help set the temperature for how the classroom operates. Students deserve a safe learning environment where they feel welcome and can be themselves. Constantly re-affirming these expectations and addressing any concerns is paramount.

Being supportive of students who feel bullied can involve giving them space to express their emotions while also affirming to the student they have a support network to draw upon.

Building a positive rapport with our students helps alert us when there is an issue or potential room for growth. Communicating with administration when we have concerns is also crucial as they have years of experience and expertise to draw upon to help create the best outcome.

As others have mentioned, having a solid support structure within the school between faculty and students helps to address situations in a timely manner. Our faculty meets twice per week with our guidance counseling staff to discuss any issues we've noticed or tried to address.

A brochure and/or newsletter, especially in the beginning of the year, proved helpful in outlining the goals and expectations of the class for parents. E-mail and phone communication is also crucial to help reinforce positive behavior and actions.

I provided a survey to my students at the beginning of the year asking what type of environment they learn best in. Many students prefer choosing their own seating to help avoid conflicts. There are also inclusion posters around the room to let all students know they are welcome.

#teachered #edtech I also teach high-school students and found communication outside of email and google classroom to be difficult. I plan next year to make more of an effort in September to build relationships with my students' parents/guardians to hopefully create more of a team approach.

#teachered #edtech I think this a great point that positive reinforcement is a powerful tool we have as teachers to build confidence in our students.

#teachered #edtech Monthly newsletters sounds like a great idea to build interaction with students' parents/guardians!

#teachered #edtech I was surprised when I did a survey earlier in the year and about 90% of my students answered they preferred paper assignments over work on the computer. Perhaps not wanting to deal with charging their laptops, etc was part of that.

#teachered #edtech Yes I agree with that technology has both pros and cons. Being able to offer varied and differentiated types of assignments is valuable but we must work to ensure every student is provided the tools to navigate these apps and other online resources.

#teachered #edtech I agree so much, as teachers we can promote being life-long learners to our students by demonstrating that we are also able to adapt to new ideas and technology.

#teachered #edtech I agree it is so valuable to borrow great ideas or lessons from other teachers. Often I will see another teacher's lesson and it will help spur me to try something different in class.

#teachered #edtech I agree so much, many of my colleagues have been at the school for years so seeing how they interact with students has helped me to build a positive classroom environment and form connections with my students.

I agree so much, I was fortunate to be able to observe 3 of my co-workers during the school year and found it really helpful to see how they managed the classroom, interacted with students and prompted higher level thought.

#teachered #edtech I have encountered this issue as well with students diverting to youtube, games, etc and use a similar monitoring app. I find it helpful and lets students know we're paying attention.

Agree with you that the use of technology can lead to issues with students avoiding work or sharing their answers with others. Having open discussions seems very helpful in conjunction w/ tools to monitor the use of tech.

I think this is a great idea to include peer support for students who may struggle navigating online tools and platforms!

I agree that Quizizz is a helpful tool for checking students' understanding of new units/concepts.

This sounds like a great way to include technology in a fun and thought provoking way for your students!
June 14, 2025 at 4:50 PM
That sounds like a really fun activity and helps connect to students' interests!

I agree with many of you that valuing process over results is a powerful tool both for students growth and our own improvement as teachers. All students are capable of growth and we play a major role in building that confidence through our language, assessment and feedback.

Focusing and encouragong effort and process, providing practical guidance and focusing on improvement are all tangible steps we can take as teachers to help foster a growth mindset. Verbal or written feedback gives students the opportunity to self assess their own learning process
