So we hung out tonight with Joey Chestnut, the Michael Jordan of competitive eating. Good chat, good dude, down to earth, I was impressed by him honestly. Funniest thing he said to me: “Dude, I still love a good hot dog!”

As a holy old saintly Cistercian told me many times: “Bow down before your priesthood every day.” I try to remember that, to live it. Grateful, on this birthday and ordination anniversary of mine, this feast day of martyrs, for this sacred priesthood, frail though this vessel be.

Visiting Charleston for the first time. Finished “Charleston” by @scrawford.bsky.social on the plane. Excellent, sobering, a must read. It certainly helps me see this beautiful place a bit more clearly—the streets, the water, the people, the entire antediluvian reality of it.

To be in communion with the Successor of Peter: there is a sense to it, a consolation to it; it’s something one feels; it stirs a thankful tear. It is to taste the truth of John 17. It is to feel the truth of John 21:15-19. And it is a precious gift.
