Yes exactly, the framers assumed that self-interest would see Congress protect its power. They also could not have foreseen the moral rot that's made such a capture of power possible.

Something about sowing and reaping, can't remember where I read it...

Exactly, set expectations low and then exceed them. I practice this at my job every day!

Solovyov isn't wrong in saying that expertise has left the Whitehouse and NSC. It's the one aspect I agree with him on. If even our adversaries see how far good advice has fallen in this country, they must be both scared (about unpredictability) and overjoyed (about how easy Trump can be played).

What an interesting dinosaur.

Thanks. I'm not talking about myself, but friends and family. And I want to think several years down the road, if possible, and I see a bleaker future for all but the already wealthiest ten percent. It will get harder and harder to escape the poverty trap in Gilded Age 2.0.

the mainstreaming of AI/ML/automation will eliminate many of the entry jobs which used to somewhat guarantee career and financial progression. Not everyone can work in the manual trades (there will be an oversupply, and automation will increasingly come for those, too). "Remote work" also at risk.

Yes, that all takes money, access to credit, and parents who cared enough to educate you well when you were younger. We idolize the few who do "make it" past those hurdles because it's becoming so rare in the "land of opportunity". Social mobility is far lower now than in previous decades, and...

cycle of generational poverty? It sucks and its brutal, I don't wish it on anyone. The fact that "working poor" is a common term in our country and world should be a clue that everything is not alright.

Some people have options that lead to the same low-paying outcome simply because of geography.

Of course, and you can still be one of the millions of working poor. Have you met or known anyone who is working multiple jobs not because they like to, but because they need to? Have you been in that situation? Do you understand how difficult and sometimes impossible it is for people to break the..

Donors are using bribes to purchase influence and a closer spot in the inner ring of the court.

Empathy for others and respect for individual responsibility aren't mutually exclusive. Our capitalist economic model makes it impossible for everyone to just change jobs to get more money; exploitation of labor and effort is baked into the system because of false scarcity and "I got mine" thinking.

Man, it's totally that easy for every single individual, duh! You single-handedly solved our poverty crisis overnight, thank you for your insights.

For once, the truth.

Worse yet, they were all pardoned en masse because it would be "too hard" for each case to be individually looked at.

I guess Melania didn't need the space because she hates her office (waste of time for her).
October 24, 2025 at 12:28 AM
She better dye those black strands blonde if she ever wants to truly be accepted by her peers (or her boss's boss).

Wow, it's about time! Took them long enough for something so simple. I also wish Biden had imposed these same sanctions in '22, but here we are.

Yes, it's a depressing outrage.
