Question for people who can actually cook from a complete culinary idiot:

How the hell do I prepare and cook a turkey? How? I’m going to lose my mind. I didn’t even know what brining was prior to a day ago. Couldn’t find brining bags. I don’t know what to do 😭😭😭

Trying my best to “look cute” even though I feel old and ugly and OMG WHY IS ONE OF MY BROW HAIRS WHITE?

I’m just trying to clean and he’s staring down at me like the peasant I am.

Nobody told me that an 84-year-old woman was the main character in the novel “The Haar”. And her name is Muriel so now I can ONLY picture her as Muriel from “Courage the Cowardly Dog”, and with the Scottish accent too since the story does take place in Scotland.

That had to have been on purpose.

Now reading “The Haar” by David Sodergren, featuring the amazing cover of art of @slimyswampghost.bsky.social

I also want to mention quickly that I LOVE when authors list what they were listening to when they write books, which Sodergren does in his acknowledgments.

Morning town fog.

This isn’t Silent Hill. But it could be. Honestly, my town does give off those purgatorial vibes. It even has that sort of unassuming, quiet, and definitely not haunted (😉) kind of name.

Damn. Maybe I do live in Silent Hill.

I cannot express enough how good “The Troop” by Nick Cutter was. Disgusting, enraging, often times quite tragic. It is so well-written. I marked up sections I thought were fantastic. I’ve been trying to jumpstart my brain to get it in the mood to write, and my reading spree has 100% helped.

I actually forgot that I had this. I don’t reach for my dvds that often. Will definitely be watching it later. Might as well just go for one of the scariest movies tonight. Why not.

Happy Halloween 🎃 👻🦇

This is probably the most depressing book I’ve read in a while, and that’s saying something. It’s like someone took The Offspring’s song “The Kids Aren’t Alright” and made a book out of it.

Pretty good and a fast read at just 82 pages. Gave me a little bit of “Jaws” vibes and a little bit of “The Bay” vibes.

I freaking love this movie 🧟‍♀️

Evil Dead (2013)

I love that for them.

Let’s see if this pisses me off.

Now watching: Good Boy (2025)

Let’s see how weird Bill Skarsgård gets this time, I guess.

If you were hosting a party for a bunch of crpytids, who would get an invite?

I’m trying to come up with a very small story idea. I’m trying to think of which cryptid would definitely get an invitation.

Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

Current mood. I don’t like being screamed at. That is not appreciated and it is not mature or acceptable behavior in civilized circles. Your mother should have taught you better instead of telling you that being loud equals being right.

Me waking up on October 1st, ready to be spookier than usual.

The Misery Chick.

So short for how good it was and it leaves a strong impression of eeriness. The ending is definitely going to give me nightmares because that was actually insane. Lots of Celtic folklore/mythology references in this one, too, ranging from subtle to horrifying.

Finished this a few days ago. Incredibly well-written. I cried. Several times. But it’s not a book for the weak. If you don’t like your fantasy with an overdose of horror, this isn’t the book for you. It’s brutal.

Daria’s “The Misery Chick” showed up on PlutoTV and that’s odd timing when you factor in current events.
