The novel was removed from all Fort Bend ISD HS libraries in March 2025, following the fiction audit. It was noted that the book violated the EFB (Local) policy at the time as it "promoted" illegal drug use amongst minors and sexually activity amongst minors.

Published in 1999, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky was the 3rd most banned book in 2024. The novel was mostly challenged due to claims of sexually explicit content, LGBTQIA+ content, depiction of sexual assault, depiction of drug use, and profanity.

Happy Independence Day!

Our recommended reading for today, the Declaration of Independence.

Together we celebrate and remember our Founding Fathers' intent: to establish a nation based on individual liberty, self-governance, and the rejection of tyranny.

Man o’War was recently removed from FBISD libraries due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the Texas Penal Code by the “committee”. Taken as a whole, the book is NOT considered harmful or obscene, yet it was removed from all HS libraries.

FBISD removed Boy Toy—a thoughtful, age-appropriate novel on trauma—without clear review or justification. If based on discomfort, not policy, this risks censorship and legal issues over students' rights. Transparency matters.

In fact, one day after the FBISD BOT passed the new EF (Local) policies, Buford hosted a party to celebrate Hamilton’s “accomplishment”. Fellow trustees Adam Schoof and Sonya Jones were also in attendance, along with several leaders in the Fort Bend Republican Party.

Our message to the FBISD BOT: It is completely unacceptable for a sitting board member to call anyone “groomers”, especially a group comprised of FBISD parents, staff and students.

It’s sad we even have to make this statement.

22 more books were recently added to the HS "Do Not Purchase" list. One can only assume their removal is a direct result of the changes to EF B (Local) that were passed by the board of trustees earlier this school year.

We hope 2025 will be a better year for books...our kids deserve better.
