It's easy to look smart when few put effort into learning or applying the knowledge.

It's easy to look like a hard worker when nobody wants to exert themselves above a minimum.

It's easy to look peaceful and calm when surrounded by the loud and the agitated.

I could go on.

There is a certain baseline competency level most people inherently believe everyone doesn't reach- helped by the fact that a lot of people deliberately limbo under the bar.

If you operate at that mere competent level- people rely on you and consider you clever, hard-working, and so on.
