It would probably just end up like that Pike air rights parcel that didn’t have any chance of being built

MassDOT does understand when they are creating a functional green space (as opposed to the rest of the green space) but neither they nor the City of Somerville has any interest in reclaiming this land for a productive purpose

I mean look at this. Most of this is unusable. This is maybe a fine design out in the suburbs but doesn’t belong in a city

There’s definitely a lot more room for better CR implementations of a next statewide zoning effort, enforcing towns to implement walkability to station is one of them
November 14, 2025 at 7:32 PM
In this case probably 6 min RL branch headways are the bigger deal?
November 14, 2025 at 7:14 PM
So best cases are in outer burbs w/ subway access that aren’t building housing.

What’s wrong? The “flexibility” in the act means Braintree could rezone a site with no meaningful walkable access to the station

I also think there’s just some hysteresis going on here. Had this happened in 2022 we’d be in a better place today. Instead we’ll be just now catching up

They can even loudly complain while they pass it!

Did phase 1 of BNR + OL improvements make the OL a better soak of riders than the BL?

Many of the RL feeder buses north of the river (71/73/77) offer way less service than they did pre-COVID…seems like this is true of a lot of bus routes. Sort of wonder if that’s not helping
November 6, 2025 at 1:52 AM
Okay some thoughts:
RL only really hit pre-Covid service this fall, and even then we’re not back at peak times
GL is worse than pre-Covid
BL ridership has seen weak ridership recovery compared to OL, which makes me think about buses…

I’m usually NB in the evening and I find Kendall to be peak that direction (opposite in the morning)
November 6, 2025 at 12:59 AM
NB or SB? We just started clearing 60% pre-Covid on the RL, finally
November 5, 2025 at 10:53 PM
I’m more surprised at the big dropoffs btw peak and offpeak, more about the L

Somerville needs to build ~1000 homes a year to not contribute to the regional housing crisis and keep rents stable. Let’s hope my misgivings are wrong and Jake’s the guy to get us there

Not supporting a development because it also “only” has 20% IZ is also ehhhhhh
October 30, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Let’s hope!

That’s fine. I just felt it was odd to put her lower than Nolan on streets when Nolan delayed Mass Ave and Zusy brought it back
