Here's a fun way my spouse & I track the moon:

We have two containers, one for the new moon & one for the full moon; together they hold 14 acorns. Each night we move an 🌰 from one to the other as we approach 🌑/🌕 so they're all in the relevant container when 🌑/🌕 is at hand
