I’m still thinking of that Ruby Central blog post were they claim “fiduciary duty” (presumably towards their donors?).

They’re a non-profit.

They do not have a fiduciary duty, because they don’t exist to make a profit for owners or third parties.

They exist for the public good. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's a well known fact that when an open source community is upset, the way to get them to calm down is by saying "fiduciary responsibility" a lot. There's nothing open source communities care more about than fiduciary responsibility.

Do you trust #DHH in your #ruby supply chain? How about a board of unelected people with zero transparency or will to communicate with their community like @rubycentral.org ? Today it is removing maintainers, tomorrow it could cripple your business

If you have a Ruby Central membership, please consider cancelling it and investing in Ruby conferences and gem maintainers instead.
Hey, #ruby folks! I've been one of the #RubyGems maintainers for the last decade.

Ruby Central has forcefully taken control of the RubyGems organization on GitHub, the `rubygems-update` and `bundler` gems on rubygems[.]org, and more.

I need to weigh my words carefully re: #ruby Central, but let's just say I have *zero* respect for the current leadership. Zero.

And I have receipts.

Just wondering how much I want to get into this. As the lead maintainer of a Ruby web framework, I'm a biased source. But it's getting […]

Hey @valeriecodes.bsky.social, are there any plans to shift Ruby Central to publicly elect Board members? Right now AFAICT Board members are nominated and elected secretly, with no community engagement. This is the only info I could find, please educate us?

@mghaught.bsky.social any comment on what is going on with RubyGems?

Really disappointing to see the state of the community this morning

@rubycentral.org why did you commit a hostile takeover over of rubygems causing long standing maintainers to resign? How are we as a community supposed to continue to rely on Ruby with you causing this kind of damage on a recurring basis.
