Today there are two birthdays for two men who are hugely important to rock without being musicians themselves: Alan Freed, the man who named Rock and Roll, and Max Yasgur, whose farm is now a shrine to rock as the site of Woodstock. Happy birthday to both!

It is December 4th, one of the more well known days in Zappa's history. Not only did he die on this day in 1993, but it's also the day, in 1971, that some stupid with a flare gun burned this place to the ground during Frank's show there.
