Age-standardised mortality rates (ASMR) and life expectancy are related as both use the same info. But as shown below, they don’t align perfectly and there are some outliers. Men in Canada and Finland have very similar life expectancy but a 16% difference in their ASMR. 2/3

How can the UK both rank 4th worst and 2nd worst for female mortality out of 20 high income countries in the same year? Even if they both use the same information about deaths by age and sex?! @jonny-clarke.bsky.social , @charlestallack.bsky.social and I have published a blog on this today 1/3
