But it’s not just that cops would be taking on more risk, it’s also that it could take cops significantly longer to apprehend them, during which time they’d be able to continue killing people

What do you think should be done in the case of (for example) an active shooter? My feeling is that de-escalation is not always possible, and the use of potentially lethal force allows a shooter to be incapacitated much faster than if police were constrained to only non-lethal means

My body’s a zombie for you!

What the hell are you guys talking about? They’re not that similar

What the fuck are you talking about. Because Friedman taught there 80 years ago, present students shouldn’t be able to study comparative literature?

“neuro fuzzy” replacing neurospicy on the euphemism treadmill

To be clear I like Mamdani, but it’s not hard to imagine the left’s response if it came out that Elon had applied to college as “African American.”

I don’t think it serves us to pretend it’s totally unremarkable for Mamdani to have self-identified as such

I really like Mandani, but the presentation of some of these statistics is misleading. “Brighton Beach Went for Trump by 44 points. Last week, we won it by 16” suggests a huge swing and winnable Trump voters, but that’s not necessarily the case, as the vast majority of primary voters voted Kamala

idk I’ve met a lot of rich people who have pretty favorable relationships to capital and it hasn’t cured their alcoholism

I basically agree with this, but I also think there’s great value in physicians of all specialties having a basic understanding of their colleagues’ work. Do you think that physically strenuous clerkships should be optional for able-bodied students as well?

genuinely I’m really sorry that happened to you! but Harvard has like 20 thousand faculty and staff, many of whom have devoted their lives to the common good through grant-funded research. I don’t see how it serves us to treat all those people with so little empathy

It means that people at Harvard (many of whom are nice and talented and whose work often benefits the public) apply for federal grants to sustain their research. I understand disliking Harvard as an institution but a lot of good people are going to suffer because of this.

No offense but this is basically an incoherent argument for veganism when many species routinely eat other animals (or their eggs, for a more apt comparison). Like, should we be emulating animals or shouldn’t we?
