Let's have some good news! Then I am going to go and write up a post on all this.

So far this year (to June 2025) 37,260 people who held pre settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme have been automatically upgraded to settled status!

182,553 visas were granted to main applicants in work categories in the year to June 2025, down 36%. In addition to the 2024 changes to care route, HO says this is due to more scrutiny applied to employers in health & social care and compliance activity against employers.

With family applications we can see a large drop in numbers in the last year which seems at least in part to reflect the fact that there was a huge increase in applications going in before the minimum income requirement was raised from £18,600 to £29,000 in April 2024.

Albanians are still the nationality with the highest number of enforced returns, although we can see that the number has dropped slightly from the previous year.

In the year ending June 2025, 20,817 people were able to come to the UK safely to reunite with their refugee family members here. The most common nationalities coming under refugee family reunion were Syria (18%), Iran (17%) and Afghanistan (12%)

An interesting point to note on "pull factors" - the top nationality claiming asylum in Spain is Venezuelan, a country which barely features in the UK at all, showing that language/culture can be an important factor for people choosing a destination country
August 21, 2025 at 9:11 AM
The grant rate for Syrians is 98%, however decisions on most of these cases were paused from December last year through to July 2025.

Three Syrians have been granted protection in 2025, and 13 have been refused. 37 claims have been withdrawn.
