Now a *third* time that the historic district associated with proto-LGBTQ+ history before the Castro is being mysteriously blocked by lobbyists over the will of most residents. Do North Beach residents' votes not matter? They overwhelmingly support it. Is North Beach historic? @bobakesfandiari.com ❤️

@dannysauter.bsky.social would be a savvy politician if he listened to his constituents - the majority of whom support designation of this district. You may want to talk to a few genuine preservationists. We're not all that bad, and we want affordable housing in the North Beach Historic District too

*YIMBYs have an understandable dislike of historic districts, but really don't understand anything about them. Mostly they're pushed by ppl who sincerely care abt old buildings and—this is critical—opposed by residents who are worried abt property value. Avg NIMBY hates apts *and* historic districts

Land doesnt follow econ 101 because land cant be created out of thin air - the most manipulated asset in history. Demand, on the other hand, has been shown numerous times in history to be speculative, artificially created, and not beneficial to society at large...

ironically, that's also a privilege of people who live in nimby neighborhoods ;-)

I feel sorry for you who think every phone booth is a representation of your preconceived ideology...

North Beach designation "delayed" a second time? Jane, respectfully, I'm asking you if you think North Beach is historic.

It may be too much to ask, but I'm simply asking for transparency, neutrality. Huge fan of Reich, because he believes in housing, but he also has been attacked by yimby ideologues for no logical reason. Self-professed yimbys are a cult. Let's *literally* build housing without 501c4s funded by tech

@clarajeffery.bsky.social glad that you reposted this from my favorite economist and fellow Berkeley grad (@rbreich.bsky.social). However, I would like to ask you about your support and reposting of special interest yimby groups. I'd like to see journalism and not Astroturf, please.

You do realize that the vast majority of media coverage out there - especially from the Chron - is abundantly on the 'abundance' side. It's refreshing to actually see a neutral article that reports the facts and avoids hyperbole. Glad I donated to CalMatters.

They literally don't think people should express their 1st amendment rights. They think your "grievances" are air quotes.

So you support historic places? That's sweet. I've heard that from lot of people like you, but action matters more than words.

Well you have taken very strong positions against historic designation. That's a fact.

You joke, but an Arkansas phone booth was actually designated to the National Register (which is awesome). But why judge? It's not blocking housing. I think they add variety to our cities and provide a glimpse of the past. We can all learn from the modest phone booth.

Atkins is a great public servant who - I'm sure if you asked - would absolutely support the NB Historic District and was literally responsible for the tax credits that North Beach sites could leverage to adaptively reuse the vaunted "parking garages" into housing...
