Took several extended breaks from speedrunning this year and found a new love for the Soulsborne games. But still got 2.5 SMT games in the top 5 regardless!

13. My personal biggest FF hot take, I LOVE this game. The unique level system has always been super interesting to me and David Bo- The Emperor is one of the coolest FF villains of all time. Phenomenal OST as well!

12. The first RPG I ever played and it was totally by accident. I would watch my brother play “Megaman X” on the computer and thought this was that game. Kid me was VERY surprised by what the game really was, but I still had a lot of fun with it regardless and still have fond memories of the game.

11. A big part of high school was my brief obsession with the FGC that was started when close friend of mine and I picked up this game. We stuck with the series playing 3-5 times a week from peak CS up until a bit into Chrono Phantasma. CS:Extend will always be my fave, but started here

10. Probably my favorite indy-vania (in more ways than one) of all time, this is one of those games that I have replayed in full at least once a year since I first played it and will probably continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

9. On the topic of speedruns, my first SMT run, the game that got me back into the series after a bit of a hiatus, and the game that I built my twitch channel with (my profile pic is even a series OC). DDS and its sequel are still contenders for my favorite games in my favorite RPG series.

8. The first two speedgames that really caught my focus. Bought most of the series during a steam sale and the *unique* combat and short length of the first two games really caught my attention. Also has the honor of being the first speedrunning community I joined. Not a top game but very impactful

7. A more recent game for me. People who know me know I was very much ANTI-Soulslikes as a subgenre for a very long time. This was the game that not only softened my opinion on them, but kickstarted the obsession that I’ve had with them since first playing it in January/February.

6. The game that got me into both SMT as a series and more invested in RPGs as a genre. Was half-heartedly a fan of the genre before 2013, but playing this game on-release really opened my eyes to how much I’d grow to LOVE these games.

5. Another favorite game from a favorite series. We had Megaman 2 on the NES growing up, but this was the game that ignited my love for the series and is in my opinion still the best the series has ever been (also child me definitely had a huge crush on Ciel and to a lesser extent Leviathan 😂😅)

4. The game in contention with SF64 for my top-3, my favorite game from one of my favorite game series of all time. Terrified the hell out of me as a kid and endlessly fun to blast through as an adult. Probably single-handedly responsible for my love of Metroidvanias.

3. Another of the first games I ever played and a contender for the last slot of my top-3. I have so many fond memories of quoting ALL of the voice lines, learning how to mimic the boss explosion noises, and being amazed watching my older brother beat Star Wolf and Andross back when I couldn’t.

2. Another one of my favorite games of all time. This was the game that is the reason I got a PS2, because I wanted to play it after playing the 4th game on the 360. Was absolutely blown away and is probably a big contributor as to why I’m a fan of stupid-hard action games to this day!
