Israel has attacked the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters. People of conscience have been abducted.
The flotilla broke no laws. What is illegal is Israel’s genocide, Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza, and the Israel’s use of starvation as a weapon.

Today the #FreedomFlotilla Coalition set sail with roughly 100 people aboard 'Conscience' - with many healthcare workers & journalists. Our goal is to break Israel’s illegal siege, to provide international correspondents chances to report from #Gaza, & deliver urgently needed medical support.

Both are on the firth day of an open hunger strike to protest their unlawful detention under poor conditions. Adalah's attorneys visited them in the past hour. During the meeting, the two reported that prison personnel had been violently raiding and searching their cells on a regular basis. They are being held in overcrowded, poorly ventilated cells, without ventilation or cooling, despite the extreme summer heat. They are being denied basic hygiene supplies, and their sleeping areas are infested with bedbugs. With no yard time, they remain confined in closed rooms all day, without fresh air or space to move. Seven volunteers were deported yesterday, 28 July: Ange Sahuquet (France), Emma Fourreau (France-Sweden), Chloé Fiona Ludden (United Kingdom-France), Justine Kempf (France), Antonio La Picirella (Italy), Robert Martin ("Australia"), and Tania (Tan) Safi ("Australia").

Norwegian activist Vigdis Bjorvand is reportedly being held in a solitary room without any communication or companion despite her advanced age. Vigdis Bjorvand is a 70-year-old activist and grandmother from Norway with an unwavering commitment to justice and human rights. She first joined the Freedom Flotilla in 2023 aboard the 'Handala', and has since participated on 'Conscience' and 'Madleen', and now sailed towards Gaza as the cook on board. Vigdis and her 20 crew mates have joined a hunger strike as a political act against their illegal abduction by the Israeli military in international waters, the illegal siege and ongoing genocide, and hunger in Gaza. The Adalah lawyers report that Vigdis is being held in a solitary room without any communication or companion. We need to take action to guarantee that Vigdis returns safely to her home. At the Israeli prison, US human rights defender Chris Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals. They choked him and kicked him in the legs.

When he reached the Israeli prison, U.S. human rights defender Chris Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals. They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back. When his lawyer met with him, Chris was surrounded by six members of Israel’s special police unit. This level of force was not used against other abducted activists. The Freedom Flotilla Coalitions condemn this violence against Chris and demand accountability for the assault and discriminatory treatment he faced.

Adalah lawyers have met 17 of 21 detained activists. They are in relatively stable condition. Israel is treating them as if they entered illegally, despite abducting them in international waters. They were told to either accept “voluntary deportation” or remain detained and appear before a tribunal.

‘Handala’ was illegally boarded by Israel military in international waters, around 40 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.
