What a story about Nancy. Good for her and glad she was safe. I can imagine being both proud of her and wanting to tell her to preserve her own safety.

Xcel is building solar at Sherco (which is closing) to great fanfare (before the subsidies run out), while it's right hand is trying to keep Comanche open (probably with subsidies)? And Sunrun is about to engage on the 1000th VPP pilot (also subsidies?)? Honestly, is there another way?

This seems like a critically important issue, though one I don't fully understand. I see the arguments in CA and HI, I understand that power produced is a time limited commodity, but these payments seemed almost designed to limit rooftop solar.

But right now, it can't serve as a grid resource because you can't plug it into your circuit board, not even to mention feeding it back into the grid. Or am I missing something?

It actually makes him look short (to me). I like the "Swimmin" comment - very clever (and apt).

I certainly hope not. Probably not? As a lay person and not a theologian, I will say there is a lot I don't understand and a lot I should understand much better, but I did manage to get those questions correct.

Would the polling data among council participants been better? Hopefully?

How are time of use tariffs different from moving demand? Your example of running A/C during the day sounds like moving demand? I'm not understanding the difference or the significance, though I do think that time of day pricing could make a huge difference on usage.

Interesting. These companies presumably have teams of people figuring this out. It promises to change their very business model. Those pavilions also seem like easy places to put a few solar panels.

This is a bit off post-topic, but I saw something the other day about Prof at Rice (are you a Rice grad?) and Organic Rankin Cycle (which is what Fervo uses?) to 'recycle' waste heat into electricity at data centers. Super interesting.

Welcome to Chicago. And (Aug 26) the drop in temperatures has been nice.

Years later, I still think this is cool. TMBG singing Tubthumping by Chumba Wumba. They cram into a small studio in the offices of a Chicago radio station with staff members all around. Just fun. Watch the guy in the pink/purple shirt. He's having a blast. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yf0A...

But California was super worried about driving up prices so they undermined the rooftop solar industry. How about something between net metering (because noontime power isn't the same as 6:00 pm power) and tons of access/connection fees?

A question about transfers and club identity. Are there any players left from the initial seasons following the Ryan/Rob purchase? How is that seen among long time supporters? It seems that in intnl football - organizations do win championships and players turn over a lot.

It seems that we avoid a fair number of these discussions with regulatory (and engineering) work that allows more rooftop solar that can sell its electricity to the grid at a fair price without subsidies (prices resembling other places). But what moves that needle?

We have 1 car and live in an urban condo. We need better range (for ~1 trip a month on highways) and a condo charging solution. I would also like better model choices (we drive a CRV now). It is the future and the concerns are solvable but real.

Awesome. My term as a PC(USA) elder was not so glorious. Granted it started out (first meeting) with the head pastor moving to a new church and the associate pastor encouraged to resign after a discussion of what had gone wrong between them. So maybe it was not quite normal.

Should we be liking this or offering you empathy?
July 14, 2025 at 1:01 PM
This! We need more of this. Straight forward steps to reduce solar costs. Allow people to efficiently spend their money in a way that helps them and the climate. And we could establish a fair pricing system that allows people to benefit from the overall benefits to the grid - as your research shows

True. And yet the Guti to Benzema is so beautiful in part because of the ridiculously wide open net that Benzema had. But still amazing and beautiful for its simplicity.

I know you are both making a good point and getting a chuckle and so I hesitate to go super serious, but ... the good point really is a very very useful one. Better price signals can positively change behavior and we would all benefit. But it seems nearly impossible for regulators to get there.

"Drill baby, drill" is being realized by @timlatimer.bsky.social and Fervo. Thanks, @jessedjenkins.com for your hat tip yesterday of Fervo's awesome news, I wouldn't have otherwise seen it.

I cannot understand how he has been paid anything. Based on published reports alone, he violated several stndrd clauses in most employment agreements including moral turpitude and engaging in activity that harmed Liberty. And his, and the board's, upholding of fiduciary duties seems at risk.

Your further posts on Nicea are pushing me to ask about Philip Jenkins piece in the Christian Century entitled "Nicene Myths." It puzzled me and seemed a half attempt to rehabilitate Arius and question the solidity of the N. Creed, and I wondered why and what was the source?

We've seem this finish multiple times in the last couple of weeks. And it's amazing every single time.
