Makalu (8,485 m), as seen from my successful climb of Mount Everest’s northeast ridge in 2006. I thought, 'Someday, I’d like to climb that mountain down there.' Wait—‘down there?’ Really? Climb the mountain down there? It cracks me up every time I think of it! What an incredible day it was.
