I had a co-worker/friend who attended the same church as they when he was a kid, and he would reminisce in awed tones about one or the other of them arriving just a bit late for Sunday Mass and making a royal entrance to her front pew.

Thirty-five years ago this was on two or three times a day in my house and I still have only affectionate memories of it, so maybe it would hold up okay. If not, it’s very short so not much lost. 🤷🏼

And, since I had learned my lesson with an older dog, he was insured since I got him so the (very costly) first rate service at Davis was mostly covered.

Since then, he's been seizure free and back to normal—though maybe even a little more food driven and definitely more thirsty (hunger and thirst are both side effects of the phenobarbital).

He went on phenobarbital and (this is for the old folks out there) did his best imitation of Lee Marvin's drunken horse in "Cat Ballou" for the 2-3 weeks it took for him to build up a tolerance for the meds.

I hadn't yet lined up a vet in the Sacramento area (to which I had moved), so I took him to the best place I could think of—Davis Vet School's emergency clinic. They were fabulous, kept him for several days to do tests and rule out anything else, and then proclaimed him officially "epileptic."

They were a bit different than those he'd had occasionally over the years—more intense, without any retching that signaled the seizures, slower to recover. Finally, convinced that something was very wrong, I had to take him somewhere.
