Hello. I'm Leonard Nimoy. The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is: No.

Politics is tedious but this photo of #Trump is so annoying. He's got a face you just want to punch until it's a bloody pulp. Don't really know about #Rubio but when you see a photo of him his eyes don't seem to work properly and he always looks like he's puked or he's about to. Wankers all of them.

Maybe tentacle body horror is too much for you. #Urotsukidōji isn't to everyone's tastes certainly. You like your horror slightly more...cerebral. Thoughtful. Unsettling. Try #NeverLetMeGo by #KazuoIshiguro. The reality of what is happening creeps up on you and its grim.

#Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend (1989)

They don't make anime like they used to. We watched this in the 80s, too stoned to follow it. Nowadays I watch Studio Ghibli. It's a little more...how can I put it...restrained.

The United Kingdom has much in common with Canada, for reasons. If you want to get under the skin of a nation, watch #TrailerParkBoys (for Canada) or its UK cousin #PeopleJustDoNothing. A warts 'n' all expose of the lives of working men and women, ordinary folk just trying to get by. Not.

30/30 A book that's better than the film

Moonraker by Ian Fleming

I'd like to see the next run of James Bond films redo the films that didn't follow the book plots, like this one. Moonraker is a much better story in the book.

Vulcan, stardate 8390. Smacks of #Mars but I guess if you look at the Universe from a holistic perspective then its perfectly reasonable to assume that Mars could easily be replicated 1 billion trillion times across the Cosmos. How many star systems could be supporting life like ours. Who knows.

Famous Film Quotes #3

Pulp Fiction (1994)

What a mind-fuck of a movie. The opening set the scene.

'Any of you fucking pricks move and I’ll execute every motherfucking last one of you!'

Well we didn't and we were well rewarded. Even 30 years later its like a breath of fresh air.

Famous Film Quotes #2

'We've gone on holiday by mistake!'

In #WithnailandI our heroes end up in a tumbeldown cottage in a very soggy Wales, with no idea what they are doing. They are more like siblings than friends. One of the most memeable scenes of all time. The film is a timeless joy.

Famous Film Quotes #1

'I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse'.

In the #TheGodfather films this line occurs three times in different guises, spoken by #Pacino, #Brando and #DeNiro. I like De Niro's version best. And in reality the offerees did refuse, and found out.

29/30 Lest Darkness Fall by L. Sprague de Camp

A man is transported to 6th-century Rome and uses his modern-day knowledge to prevent the fall of Western civilization. It doesn't answer the question 'what would the world be like now?'. That's for you to decide.

11/30 The scariest AI in sci-fi

Ash, played by Ian Holm in Alien (1979). He wears a mask of calm affability and reason, but beneath it is a machine with a single mission - and you'd better not get in its way.

10/30 Alternate universes

There are so many ways this subject has been covered in film, TV, novels etc. One of my favourite stories is The Simpsons episode where Homer turns the toaster into a time machine. The guy was a genius.

28/30 A book with a satisfying ending

Solar by Ian McEwan

Our protagonist (a some-time Nobel winner) lurches from one crisis to another. The fact you're not rooting for him makes the end work better than it otherwise should.

9/30 A sci-fi concept you'd like to see happen

#Alcubierre drive - a concept that bends space-time, contracting space in front of a spacecraft and expanding it behind, allowing faster-than-light travel without violating physics. But - it requires dark matter.
