Tuesday, Sept 10: The entire world of punditry (literally, the whole planet) is offering thoughts (and in some cases prayers) on tonight’s debate. My pledge to you, BlueSky is to never run with the crowd, so I am abstaining. Enjoy this from the Yorkshire Dales where I am on walkabout

As an undergraduate philosophy major I discovered Bergson who wrote about perception & how our senses are organisedin such a way that humans exist in a time defined universe, which was what interested me.. ANyway, this is good:

Henri Bergson, philosopher à la mode
In recent years there has been a kind of Bergson revival in the anglophone world. Could it be because there is a need to rediscover his ideas?

Surprised my old colleague Cokie didn't remember a woman, Margaret Mitchell, wrote the bible of the Lost Cause: Gone With the Wind. She died when Cokie was 6 yrs old, so I'm not sure when this forgetting started.
Started listening to Cokie Roberts read "Capital Dames" and she claims in the intro that southern women "got over" the Civil War faster than southern men

Wish she'd read Caroline Janney's "Remembering the Civil War" that shows that the Lost Cause was carried forward by southern women's groups

Time for Colin Kaepernick to have a consciousness raising session with the Crimson Tide football team. Maybe a little boycott until this decision is reversed ... perhaps a visit to Auburn as well.
The University of Alabama has dozens of references to Dianne Kirksey on its websites as a "trailblazer." Last week they kicked the Black Student Union she founded in 1968 off campus, citing a new law passed by Alabama Republicans that bans it: thecrimsonwhite.com/115369/top-s...

the whispering you hear --
that's the sound of light
I whisper in your ear.
The thing that makes it light
the thing that makes it shine
is that I whisper words
and that this voice is mine.
