Wondering if any German colleagues have seen anything about this in German sources?

It's not something that's come across my radar nor have I had any luck searching for more info.

The European Commission has released its proposals for an amendment to the Safe Third Country provisions of the Asylum Procedure Regulation. These are small-seeming changes that could have a big impact on EU asylum in practice. (1/)

Some important context on the incredibly backlogged US asylum system from my colleague, @kathleenbush.bsky.social .

Want to acknowledge that, actually, this story was first reported by Reuters, not NYT. With apologies for the misattribution!
Starting off by sharing some news from the US last night. According to the NYT last night, the US government is working to move a group of migrants to Libya as soon as today (link below). This is deeply concerning for a litany of reasons.

Also some decisions coming out of the first cabinet meeting of the new German government. On migration, biggest announcement is probably the decision to cut the position of the Special Representative for Migration Agreements.

An addendum, it's worth thinking about what this might mean for Europe. European governments, particularly Italy, have worked hard to stabilize the GNU and develop cooperation on migration for several years. Will intervention by the US disrupt this delicate relationship?
2) Europe and Italy, specifically, have cooperated for several years with the GNU on sea rescues and pullbacks of migrant boats. Often, migrants are taken to detention centers, run by individual armed groups, where reports indicate abuse is rampant, and IOs have limited access.

Hello! Finally making the migration from Twitter/LinkedIn to Bluesky. Looking forward to being part of the conversation here.

Bluesky-ing (what's the verb form of Bluesky?) on all things migration and refugees, mostly covering US/N America and Europe.
