Good Thoughts/Good Words/Good Deeds


To me I never squared with the problem of evil as encapsulated by the Abrahamic tradition. Zoroastrian philosophy not only answers it, it also solves the Epicurean Dilemma. I cannot believe in a diety who is willing to inflict horror and pain on humans to test their faith.

And more and more in Iran are returning to Zoroastrianism. The idea that conversion isn't allowed holds true for the Parsis, but not in Iran, Azerbaijan or Tajikistan. Islam is quickly dying out in the region, but in Iran in particular.

2/2 rather good and evil (Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu being the sources of each) exist eternally, with Ahura Mazda creating the conceptual world and the world of the flesh (Menog and Getig) the latter of which is corruptible and the cosmic battle is waged. Suffering is bad, we are tasked to end it.

But in both Judaism and Christianity, Satan/Lucifer become ways by which God tests his believers, though in the latter case it does adopt more of a cosmic battle of good and evil (God and Satan, the adversary) a la Mazdaism. We don't believe in Satan/Angra Mainyu serving a role like that 1/2

No, Zoroastrianism is pre-Abrahamic, some saying its primitive beliefs going back to the BMAC/Sogdian civilization. It's roots can be found in the split between Indo-Aryans and Indo-Iranians, it is different from Abrahamic faiths but inspired them, especially Christianity.

In this sense, Angra Mainyu is not a tool of Ahura Mazda to test his followers, strengthen their faith or impart meaning, like he is in Judaism and to an extent Christianity. Instead, he is separate, the driving force of the Druj and the corrupter of all things. This is good because...
