Asterix was probably my earliest experience of reading translated work. Anthea Bell & Derek Hockridge managed to rewrite every French pun and wordplay into something that worked in English. A word for word translation would technically have worked but almost all of the humour would have been lost.

I refused to use ad blockers for years since many legitimate sites rely on that revenue to survive, but the internet, especially on mobile, is unusable without one these days.

Indeed. I'm just old enough to remember him being on TV at new year and I'm pretty sure he was in a panto I went to with school in the early 80's.

He had been out the public eye for so long, I hadn't actually realised he was still with us

Who could have guessed that Whitburn, of all places, would fall for the lies of the frog faced fascist?

Like others, Epitome and Hyperbole. But also Awry. I knew the word pronounced like A-rye, but never associated it with the word I had read which looked like it was pronounced Ow-ree.

Also Lingerie will forever be Linger-ee for a second in my head before it self-corrects

How can you be wrong twice in one skeet?

It's simple Nigel, none of the racists who worked at the BBC in the 70's are there now. Whereas you are the same person who is alleged to have made pro-hitler comments by fellow pupils and even one of your teachers

At first, I thought that it getting called 'belfast' in Northern Ireland must be a typo on the graph, but as descriptive names go, it's actually sort of genius

Growing up in central Scotland in the 80's, we had the similar: 'It-bit dog shit, you are not it'.

Move round one person with each word. The one who is not 'it' steps out and the rhyme is repeated until one person remains.

I feel like Kagi stepped up, but hardly anyone values search highly enough to pay for it

The infamous Zelensky meeting would probably have gone smoothly if JD Vance hadn't been there spewing bile from the corner of the room and egging trump on

Somehow, giving pig features to Trump makes him look like Boris Johnson
