A photo from last evening of me, pre-nature-trail, with my camera bag slung over my shoulder. I should have waited until my binoculars were on and my camera was out to take it to really paint a full picture. 😂🪶

Speaking of barn swallows, a few weeks ago I was able to have an incredible encounter with one at my local nature preserve. He was quite curious about me, and sat still, allowing me these incredible snaps for a few minutes! 🪶

A sweet lone barn swallow posed so nicely for me this evening 🪶

The canada geese have overtaken my local downtown waterfront park, as they typically do. They make for great subjects for detailed profile photos! 🪶

I had the pleasure of meeting this darling starling babe this week. He was making bad decisions, as fledglings tend to do, hanging out on a busy playground structure unafraid of the children stomping around him. He let me get some snaps before moving him to a nearby tree. 🪶

I'm not always posting birds, sometimes I'm posting bees!

This week, I learned that geese pant to cool themselves down. Here's a fella doing just that on a very hot evening a few days ago 🪶

A certified silly goose 🪶

I cannot believe I’d forgotten to share these! Mid-may, my friend happened to spot these two as we were driving. I was so happy I happened to have my camera with me, and we pulled over to get some great shots!

Northern Flicker (Yellow-Shafted) making a ruckus during the golden hour as I finished up my birding trip. 🪶

I swear every time I see a green heron they look so surprised, like I’ve just caught them doing something embarrassing. 🪶

“I’m watching you…” Momma swan had me a little fearful as she looked me in the eyes while I snapped pics of her family. I rank her up there with the bald eagles 😂🪶

Cygnets and momma doing some pre-bedtime preening before they nestle in. 🪶

Kestrel siblings watching me from a perch near their nest cavity. 🪶
July 5, 2025 at 5:24 AM
This sweet kestrel was the youngest of the group, and the last to fledge. This was the last photo I got of her peeking out of their nest cavity before she was out and about. 🪶

The kestrels have fledged! This lil guy did not fly off of this beam with his siblings, but instead stomped his way around while I took some shots. Perch, stomp, pause for curious interest, stomp some more. 😂🪶

I could NOT get over the ducklings’ white spots all lined up as I took this shot. So adorable! 🪶

All families are beautiful 🥹🥰🪶

I love killdeer. They are so incredibly entertaining, and hard to miss with their loud cries and wacky “broken wing” distraction displays, like this momma here is doing. You’ll notice she always kept her eye on me! 🪶
July 5, 2025 at 5:16 AM
My first “successful” waxwing shots came this week, although I had to do a bit of work in post. Here’s hoping for many more chances throughout the summer! 🪶

I have been closely watching the cygnets at my local nature preserve over the past few weeks. I felt like the smaller of the bunch deserved his own portrait. I think I was right. 🥹🪶

Another notbird, but rather a behemoth of a snapper 🐢

Normally I’m shooting birds and other wildlife, but my garden looked so pretty this afternoon! 🥰
July 5, 2025 at 4:46 AM
Yes, we have all seen brown-headed cowbirds being taken care of by unlikely parents, but today tops any I have seen. This teeny little yellow warbler was caring for and feeding its (unknowingly) adopted and obnoxiously loud child. What a sight! 😂🪶

I was able to see a few entertaining squirrels during my birding trip today. A momma fiercely watching me from near her nest, a lazy lil guy sprawled out for a nap in the shade, and a quick standoff with a suspicious fella 😂😍
