Same here. At least admist the misery and fear I have a small bit of comfort.

I think it's somewhat important not to project too much onto animals while caring, they can't sense evil or whatever, they just see them as a threat to their young, which is still insanely sad. Orcas are really, really social creatures.

Actually not all orcas are doing that, it's a specific pod. The matriarch lost a pup to a poacher boat, which looks VERY SIMILAR to commerical/consumers yachts, and has taught the entire pod to target them now.

I think that was a commentary on how bombs are often tested by dropping into the oceans

Sorry for the semi-political post all of a sudden but I genuinely don't believe that conservation should be considered political, it isn't. We ALL should be concerned about things like this. We ALL should care about life on the planet. Not being human doesn't mean it's insignificant.

I'm aware, but you know how it goes. It's hard to really be optimistic and think anything will be done. Whatever evidence they have will be labeled fake and they'll just say it's made up by their enemies

Unfortunately I don't think that's new with politicians either, nor that many would care. They'd just claim it's forged.

And even then what you disagreed on was how to handle it, not if it was important or not. I feel in just the last 10 years the world has gotten so very cruel. :(

Like since when was caring about the environment something so heavily debated? Sure, it's always been political, but it was never seen as an OFFENSIVE political statement, just something you mighr disagree on over brunch.

Also can I just say I hate how we've gotten to a point in society where me saying "animal conservation is important" is seen as an opinion that's "too political" and could get me fired because it offended a poacher or something.

I don't like interacting with political stuff on this acc/giving away my opinions but good lord this is horrific. We are moving so far backwards in terms of animal conservation in real time.
