You don't see a path to both Zachs making back of pen?

Going out and getting the new Banks (underrated cost-controlled middle relief) was always something I thought they'd do to save money in a Strahm or Bohm trade, but it's amusing to me that they will now be 100% shopping for a lefty at the deadline

I agree, but, for arguments sake, you get star offense for an avg annual value of like 18 mil a year. Marte might cost as much for 5 years as Bregman would for 2. Given the seeming uncertainty with Painter, especially against lefties, I can see a rationale.

Did Teran do enough this year to warrant a 40 spot? Seems like a bullpen guy with his control could easily find a spot as a 13th arm on many teams.

Think they protect Ricketts on 40?

Would also love your thoughts on this. He's gonna arb up near $5mil next year, which would be fine if he at least feasted on opposite-side pitching like a Sosa or Marsh is likely to do. But he looks like a defense-first utility infielder.

Why do you think the Phillies aren't trying Keaton Anthony out in COF?

patrick schwarzenegger?

How did they float hin so far down if this was the number?

He's produced, but the stuff doesn’t look all that good to me, and the k% and whiff% seem to back that up

Phillies 5 best relievers pitched tonight

I get all the reasons they wouldn't fast-track Wood for the pen, but what do you think of keeping that option open with Craig by sending him straight to AA? If he has a great first month, he's probably a more valuable 40-man carry than 3 or 4 guys on there now. If he doesn't, you don't add him.

If he looks good at complex and they were to try to use him in pen this Fall, does he then just have to stay on 40? Like once a prospect is put on, does he have to stay on?

This makes sense to me when a guy truly drops (like Miller or if someone like Cunningham does this yr), but its annoying if they force something like last yr when a Waldschmidt is just sitting there.

Hey Matt, what are your thoughts on a AAA prospect for prospect trade of Abel for Kevin Alcantara?

At what point do you move on from Stott as an everyday guy? This is not just a bad year -- he's nearly 2000 plate appearances in to a 90 OPS+ career. And if you pull out 2023, its a sub 85 OPS+. He has no slugging ability at all.

Those numbers sound like Stott

This is the exact reason I'm so annoyed when they take a HS bat like last year. They aren't going to help that player. When a college guy with an idea of the zone like Ryan Waldschmidt or Tommy White are sitting there...

I dont see him as high leverage, but I'd think Sims fits the profile of the type of guy they can help. Lefties are murdering him but his cutter usage is way down
May 20, 2025 at 9:43 PM
I don't think this should be discounted. The coverage in case of an injury makes so much more sense in March than who's going to take a few pinch hits, especially if they really plan to give these guys legit starting runs.

What if they grab a lefty-crusher like Grichuk to platoon with him?
