I wish I could disagree. Having traveled to many a small town and met quite a few people from those towns, it's not surprising how limited their world view is and also, importantly, how accessible it is. It is unfortunate, but very real and I'm confident it's part of their calculus.

Those license plate reader camera they are starting to install everywhere could be used to track their movements. Start filing FOIA requests to local, county and state records of any information with those plates in it, can give a sense of where they traveled from/too.
