We’re out here @texasbookfest.bsky.social talking to Texans who love books about how to fight back against the wave of censorship and book bans that is battering our state. Come see us! @txfreedomread.bsky.social

The district has also cited HB900 as a reason for discarding books on Greek mythology, just about everything written by Stephen King, dozens of books on art history, and—I kid you not—Rudyard Killing’s The Jungle Book.

For years I’ve joked that if they’re going to ban dirty books from schools, they should start with The Canterbury Tales, because it is filthy with a capital F.

I’ll be damned if North East ISD in San Antonio didn’t go off and do it.

Princeton ISD numbers are finally coming in! Good news: Sonia Ledezma is in 1st, w/ a solid lead. Bad news: 2 book-banning incumbents behind her. Top 2 vote-getters win seats. Would love for both incumbents to lose their seats, but one is still an improvement.

Not a school board race, but Leigh Wambsganss is a leader of Patriot Mobile’s PAC, which has wrecked school boards all around North Texas. Would flip a conservative seat to D. Hope this holds!

More good news! Former counselor Mary Coker is up over Bret Tooke in Lake Worth ISD.

In Klein ISD, the Moms for Liberty candidates are down big after early voting:

Great news in Cy-Fair ISD! The pro-book slate is up considerably!!

So did we at @txfreedomread.bsky.social. From our written testimony in the bill:
November 2, 2025 at 11:03 PM
If only someone had told lawmakers that Senate Bill 13 would dramatically slow down library purchases, making it incredibly difficult for librarians to get books into students’ hands. Oh. Wait. @freadomfighters.bsky.social did.
November 2, 2025 at 10:59 PM
Gee. If only someone had predicted this.
November 2, 2025 at 10:55 PM
The board tried to blame the law for its decision to close libraries. Fine: Parents *do* need to give an earful to the lawmakers who passed this stupid, poorly written law, which is wreaking havoc around Tx. House Rep Carrie Isaac—who represents New Braunfels—didn’t show up but did send a staffer.
October 28, 2025 at 10:43 PM
The book-banning group Citizens Defending Freedom has been conducting pressure campaigns to get books removed from school libraries in the area (and all around Texas) and celebrated the libraries’ closure on social media. But real New Braunfels ISD parents weren’t having it.
October 28, 2025 at 10:41 PM
The libraries were closed after pressure came from outside groups upset about the existence of books about racism and LGBTQ people. That included targeted harassment from L*bs of T*kT*k.
October 28, 2025 at 10:39 PM
Now kids in the district can’t go to the library at all, and district parents are pissed.
October 18, 2025 at 3:21 PM
CDF got a boost when L*bs of TikT*k blasted the district for having books related to “racism” and “LGBTQ” themes.
October 18, 2025 at 3:20 PM
This came after pressure from extremist group Citizens Defending Freedom, which is going around Tx demanding districts remove 400 books, including Elie Wiesel’s Night, Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, & Richard Wright’s Native Son. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u…

“What a win for our children!!!!”

Imagine writing that about the *closure* of libraries for middle and high school students across an entire district.

New Braunfels ISD libraries could be closed for months while the district reviews every book in its collections.
October 18, 2025 at 3:15 PM
Mask-off moment for book banners. Libs of TikTok posted breathlessly that New Braunfels ISD still has books in its library dealing with racism & LGBTQ themes. Christin Bentley, who’s behind most of Texas’s anti-book laws, posts that our new law, SB13,can be used to remove many of them.

GREAT NEWS from Leander ISD. To Kill a Mockingbird, House on Mango St, and Narrative of Life of Frederick Douglass will be returned to classrooms after a massive outcry. Thanks to everyone who spoke up!!!

From an email to teachers today:

Come see me this afternoon, Austin! I’ll be there to teach about the books that are being forced off of shelves in Texas today, the threats to the freedom to read that Texans face next, and steps we can take to stop book banning in its tracks!
October 5, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Finally, we need to start putting pieces together. We’re not fighting one bill—we’re fighting a movement that wants to restrict ideas & is happy to do it bit by bit. When you email your reps, tell them to STOP listening to extremists like Moms for Liberty & START listening to librarians & teachers.

This corresponding email went out to parents.

I need help getting this CRAZY censorship story out!

Last week, admins in Leander ISD emailed teachers telling them to “pause” use of 40 books relating to “DEI” that had previously been curriculum or choice reading activities.

Included on the list? To Kill a Mockingbird. #bookbans #booksky
