Yes, scientists standing up for themselves will seem activist and political. On the other hand, polluting industries and nation states with blood on their hands spending millions on lobbying? Nothing to see here.

My hypothesis is that since GameStop, the tech behemoths have really become giant versions of GameStop. For companies mainly making products with measurable performance, their stock prices do still somewhat reflect the fundamentals.
“The uncomfortable fact about the stock market's historic run is that no one really knows why it’s happening—or what could bring it to an end,” Rogé Karma writes: https://theatln.tc/nvtVWgII

I read Simon Schama's recent book on 19th Century public health when miasma theory was still going strong. Not sure this is the particular nostalgia most people would be comfortable re-living.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. apparently embraces the outdated "miasma theory" of disease instead of the widely accept "germ theory" of disease, which may help explain some of the actions he's been taking.

Flashback to Theresa May's "citizen of nowhere" today.

If I were a betting person, a hung parliament at the next UK general election just became a no-brainer.

I love this, from Elif Shafak, & it's what I need to hear at the moment:
"When times are confusing, everybody is a little lost. No-one is as inwardly confident as they present themselves to be. Hence the reason we must read, my boy. Books. like paper lanterns, provide us with a light amidst the fog"

Leased a new EV in January.

In the space of three years, the range of my car on a full charge has gone up by 50%. With my smart charger, on a windy night the electricity mix would be predominantly renewable.

It is time to back Arne Slot in the summer rebuild. The man has worked miracles with an inherited squad (albeit a pretty decent one) and deserves one of his own.

What an incredible passage. Wow.
