He's always been a "one for them, one for me" actor, where "them" = the bank account.

I mean, dude was in Species ... which he did *after* Schindler's List.

I honestly don't think so. Vance is in the safest spot. Just keep quiet, good things will happen. No unforced errors.

It'd be a guy at the FBI friendly with a DOGE guy (e.g. an FBI guy connected to its Palantir contracts), and it got to Musk. "Hey Elon, you'll never guess what my buddy told me..."
July 25, 2025 at 9:21 PM
Needs to be someone from the FBI that was weirdly close to Musk, and leaked to him as an elbow, buddy-buddy, remember-me-later thing.

IMO, it's someone tied to Palantir and Thiel, and therefore to Musk.

But I just described ALL the Batman villains … they were all original takes at some point.

Here: Bane was a new, original villain. Harley Quinn, too.

The Court of Owls is bad fanfic. Ooo, you’re saying Gotham had a secret society this whole time and they’re smarter than Batman? GTFO, Mary Sue.
June 8, 2025 at 10:09 PM
That's funny, because I *hate* 99 percent of fanfic like this. Incorrigible, self-aggrandizing Mary Sue. Like a restaurant promoting the menu as an expression of the chef's personal vegetable journey.

Just say something new w/ the ingredients. Batman has a new villain. Who is it? Ready, set, go.

"Help, I'm being held prisoner in a fortune cookie factory..."

Oldest joke in the world. Remains a sure kill, though.

Jack Nicholson created the homeless crisis that started in the 80s.

His performance in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was so impactful/powerful, it accelerated national DE-investment in residential mental health facilities. Rather than fix the bad places, the country simply closed them.

It's interesting to see my American friends suddenly afraid of the Irish. Like, guys, I've been here the whole time. Yes, I would like to bite everyone in the building. But no, I can't do any crazy step-dancing. We all have different skillsets.

Now the guy's got Paulie as a partner. Any problems, he goes to Paulie. ... But now the guy's gotta come up with Paulie's money every week, no matter what. Business bad? "Fuck you, pay me." Oh, you had a fire? "Fuck you, pay me." Place got hit by lightning, huh? "Fuck you, pay me."

Creatives should be paid. But I always laugh heartily that Monteiro screws up the Goodfellas metaphor and undermines his own point. FYPM means, "You knowingly got in business with a violent criminal that is overtly stealing from you, and you have no way to stop it from happening."

"Killed the Internet."

Don't fall into the "it was better back in my day" trap. :-)

Historical analogy: Roughly 20 years after TV had fully penetrated homes, people were decrying the new "relevance movement" and wanted to go back to the old days of 1950s shows.

Pro, but overrated. It's a film school project. A very good one. It gets an A in visuals, but it doesn't elevate the source material in terms of character, story, etc. I totally get that that is the point. But it's doesn't move past "fun project, glad it was done."

It's amazing how things get memory-holed. Read about the "Rural Purge" in Hollywood, where seemingly out of nowhere, US culture fundamentally shifted. and nobody really knows why. It just kinda happened.

"Your WHAT?"
"Castle, yeah. We're the caretakers. Let me get the keys and we'll walk over..."
