At ESCAS/CESS in Lisbon @giuliasciorati.bsky.social and I have co-convened the panel "Crossroads of influence: transnationality and contestation in Silk Road histories" a multidisciplinary panel with amazing historians of China-Central Asia relations Dilnoza Duturaeva and @yipengzhou.bsky.social.

In Oct 2024, companies with Chinese capital (3,105) have overtaken #Russia funded firms (3,026) in #Uzbekistan. This is huge as Russians have also moved hundreds of companies there post-invasion, yet the Chinese have done better: 1,000+ #China funded companies opened since 2022.
