- Found myself smiling/groaning along with the characters in their time loop plight. I like manipulations of time, and something about the scale and presentation here feels especially creative and human. It is joyful.

And... Debating if it's my favorite rom-com.

One of my favorite parts of the #USOpenCup is seeing the unique club crests used by amateur and semi-pro teams. Pulled aside a few I particularly like from this weekend of #USOC2025 qualifying action: Palm Beach Flames SC, Las Vegas Legends FC, Dalton United

My Lucky Stars (1985) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Farcical? Dated? Decidedly so. But also some wonderfully choreographed movements (be it dudes walking in a line or a kinetic fight sequence)—one of which is a fantastic haunted-house set piece with Jackie Chan.

And... I'm a sucker for vibrant colors.

Detective Bureau 2-3: Go to Hell Bastards! (1963) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Is it a gangster movie? Yes. Is it an action movie? Yes. Is it a comedy? Sure. Is it a noir? You bet. And it does it with a lot of style.

And... is it also a Christmas movie? Undoubtedly.

The Man with a Shotgun (1961) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Villainous villains, and a hero who is a bit wooden, in true western fashion.

And... well... it's a bit slow...

Everything Goes Wrong (1960) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Jazz! Debauchery! Lies!

And... an apt title.

Eight Hours of Terror (1957) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Trapping everyone on a bus and constantly increasing the "danger" is a good premise.

And then! And then! And then! Proto-Train to Busan, proto-Snakes on a Plane, he says, grinning.

The Holdovers (2023) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Traipsing through slush on a snowy day is the perfect encapsulation of this movie. It slorps and slips and glushes. (I mean this as an immense compliment. Especially to Paul.)

And... skip the trailer. I think it shows too much, as they tend to do.

Ran (1985) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Kurosawa's use of color in this epic cycle of tragedy is, indeed, fantastic.

And... the character Kyoami (the fool) wears really cool clothes (that I want).

Electric Dreams (1984) || 1-shot/1-thought

- Silly rom-com that is a delight to watch for its style—in particular in service of building out the character of the computer.

And... the well-appointed music from Giorgio Moroder. Sorry for 2 thoughts, I've already made a mess of this.
