When I was 9 or 10, they were great for long road trips…a lot of rest stops and gift shops in tourist-y places sold them. My favorite was the Green Lantern one, which caught me up on the Krona story (before it was a major plot point in CRISIS).

I was a late bloomer, so maybe that explained why I was such a DC fan when so many of my peers preferred Marvel. I might have needed to mature into it. Except for the occasional Spider-Man, and my brother’s X-Men comics I didn’t read much Marvel until

Also, I took Denny’s class in the early 90s, and he came in one night and told us that DC was now #3 in sales; Image had also beaten them. And the DC office’s reaction to this was the same as with Marvel in the 70s: they were a flash in the pan, it won’t last, etc. Which truly scared Denny.

I once took a class with Denny O’Neil, and he told us that when Marvel sales beat DC’s in the 70s, the prevailing attitude in the DC offices was that Marvel was a flash in the pan and they wouldn’t last, don’t worry, DC will rise back on top….something that was obviously incorrect.

Interesting, those years were exactly my college years, & I mostly spent those years listening to classic stuff my classmates told me I should have been listening to all along (that’s when I got into Pink Floyd for instance). I think the only new album I got in those 4 years was Edie Brickell.
