Rather than be honest that ODA budget cuts mean the UK will fail to meet its climate finance commitments, they are changing the rules to count more and more aid spending towards the target.

Communities already devastated by climate crisis lose out and are short-changed by this dishonesty.
The Times has covered new analysis out today by @carbonbrief.org which reveals that more than £500m of UK's record £3bn climate aid from last year came from controversial changes in the way the UK now calculates such aid.

South Sudan is facing hunger, disease, floods - and now it must find $657 million to pay creditors who sued in the UK High Court, almost half its government's revenue.

The UK must pass a law to stop private creditors from suing countries to make big profits.

To avoid being remembered as one of the worst for women and girls, it must immediately reverse these cuts and protect their rights.

The debt crisis is sabotaging climate action.

Attacking the rights of a marginalised group isn’t a win for feminism.

Demanding that women be defined by our biology isn't a win for feminism.

The people driving this are not acting in the interests of women. They're taking us all backwards and ushering in the far right.

Great to see Harriet Harman appointed as UK Special Envoy for women & girls.

The role will benefit enormously from her experience but must be backed by, at least, a 20% share of the aid budget dedicated to supporting women & girls.

Last time the UK Government implemented aid cuts, programming for gender equality took one of the biggest hits.

I've met women's rights leaders whose work on GBV, SRHR and climate was halted in its tracks.

This can't happen again. We are calling to #StoptheCuts and #SupportWomenLeaders.
Today we send our open letter to the Foreign Secretary, urging the government to commit 20% of UK aid directly to protect women & girls.

With 90+ activists & advocates, we call to:
Reverse the cuts. Fund #GenderEquality. Protect women & girls.

Thank you so much Alice Macdonald for raising this important question on how UK aid can prioritise #genderequality.

While we agree with Minister Dodds that effective mainstreaming is needed, we also need aid targeted specifically at gender equality.

We're asking for a target of at least 20%.
