No, it’s just to verify that the person trying to login has possession of the key. It doesn’t check your fingerprint; anyone could touch the key.

For some reason I missed this post when it came out. Thanks for writing it! I was a teenager when I first read Cordwainer Smith and have all the collections and the novel. I'd add that Linebarger was a major fan of Chinese and Asian culture in general, so Japanese fans are returning the favor. 1/2
