Can we not also agree that a food only federal poverty line set 60 years ago needs to be updated to account for contemporary costs? Arguments to be had about what it should be but surely $35k for a family of four ain’t it.

In this case, it’s because this particular writer was updating a 1960s poverty measure, solely based on food spending, with significant new costs that should be added to any calc that purports to be a “poverty” line. It’s an itemized list. I don’t see any nostalgia or vibiness about it.

It’s also unnecessarily muddied in the video: it is a legal obligation to refuse an illegal order — it’s “a shall, not a should or a could.”

Maybe for now it’s just a no baggage term to focus on the household economics faced by people making, say, less than a million dollars, without branding them freeloaders and what not. That’s not nothing.

Not to nit pick the senators’ video, but soldiers are *required* to refuse unlawful orders. Why did some of them (eg Slotkin, Kelly) say that “you can” rather than “you must” refuse unlawful orders?

Something like this — which clips the wings of Trump’s paramilitary force — should be part of new CR for remainder of year. Should also require clear unit and personal identifier insignia on uniforms. Coded, if necessary, but traceable by CO and local law enforcement to individuals for oversight.
