it gets framed as something pious, almost. virtuous. but it's not. it's just a piece of processing your trauma. it's going "that shit sucked, but it happened and there's nothing i can do but move forward." understanding this makes me hate the word more, tbh. it makes it about them and not you.

there's a line from 'waiting for the beat to kick in' that goes around in my head sometimes: "if you can't forgive and forget, how's this? // forget forgiving and just accept that that's it" which imo has been useful to me to reframe it bc that's exactly what forgiveness is
