it's objectively not mocking them! if people feel like they're being made fun of, that's their own hangup to deal with, but the devs have actively stated that they made this game in earnest and with a lot of love/respect for the genre. (and it shows, imo)

the best part is when you decide "my favorite song is definitely (song)" but then it's like "WRONG, it's actually 'free'!"
so you go "OKAY i have accepted that my favorite song is 'free'!" and then it's just "sorry, it's really 'your idol'!'
and this continues until you've done this for all of them
