Going into Thanksgiving, we'll be taking a look at the gonzo 1972 flick, BLOOD FREAK, for our next episode!

What are some other good Thanksgiving-themed horrors?

This one of many super fascinating bts looks at 'Bruce' the shark from JAWS! It's amazing to see the work that went into bringing it to life & also hearing about how disastrous it was actually working with it.

Check out our episode all about JAWS here: www.frankensteinspodcast.com/123-bruce-th...

Love Robert Picardo is the live 'Where's Waldo' for Joe Dante movies
October 23, 2025 at 4:28 PM
1981 gave us two absolutely banger werewolf designs AND transformation scenes. John Landis' AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON feature some fantastic effects work from Rick Baker while Joe Dante's THE HOWLING had some superb stuff from Rob Bottin.

For anyone interested in movie monsters, practical creature and makeup effects, or just some cool behind the scenes stories from some absolute banger classics, these are the books for you. From Doctor Who and Star Trek to The Thing and An American Werewolf in London.

This is such a fun bts shot from Star Trek: First Contact. The Borg Queen has been somewhat of a contentious canon addition amongst Trekkies, but there’s no doubt that Alice Krige was fantastic in the role & Frakes directed the hell out of this movie.

Coming soon on the pod! Author @katsilvaauthor.bsky.social joins us to talk monsters as well as her latest book, ‘Where the Soul Goes.’

This week we're doing a double feature featuring a couple of tall, lanky bastards that haunt us through the internet! We discuss the 2022 film, GRIMCUTTY, and the 2020 film, COME PLAY & how they relate to each other. It's a fun one!

Thank you to our friend and artist, @jimtandberg.bsky.social, for the absolutely stunning piece he crafted for this episode and for the film!

Recently watched James Cummins' 1991 horror/comedy THE BONEYARD. Clearly the priority was given to gonzo creature effects & sheer silliness rather than plot; but in a film where Phyllis Diller mutates into a Beetlejuice puppet & the big bad is a mutated poodle zombie-monster, that's not a problem!
August 16, 2025 at 4:32 PM
Finally watched Michael Mann's THE KEEP (on 4k from @vinsyn.bsky.social!). Even with the understanding the film was butchered by studio interference, disjoined would be an understatement. Still, it's got some striking visuals, great performances, and a dope as hell creature!
August 15, 2025 at 3:26 PM
A couple John Carpenter 4k steelbooks arrived in the mail today! A definite classic and one not-so-classic (but still schlocky fun). Can’t wait to throw these on!

Coming up soon on the pod!

CONTROL FREAK stars the amazing Kelly Marie Tran as a motivational speaker battling a parasitic demon. Ants, body horror, & some fantastic creature effects ensue!

We'll be joined by the film's writer/director, Shal Ngo! In the meantime, go to Hulu & watch this! It rules!

Absolutely LOVE that @jamesgunn.bsky.social gave us a Kaiju beast, some delightful makeup/prosthetics for Metamorpho, and a very weird, fun and practical monster in Mr. Handsome (played by the amazing Trevor Newlin too!!). All on top of just simply making a banger Superman flick!

Just finished up a great conversation on the creatures of the 1981 film, CLASH OF THE TITANS, with special guest Adam Marek.

Adam’s latest short story collection, “The Universe Delivers the Enemy You Need,” is currently out from @commapress.

Look for our episode this week!

Coming soon on the pod!

In 100 + episodes, we have yet to cover any Ray Harryhausen projects. Until now, that is! Next week look for our episode digging into Harryhausen’s final project, the sword & sandal, Greek myth-based adventure, CLASH OF THE TITANS, from 1981.

Recently connected with director & creature actor, Alan Maxson, who can be seen in the new MONSTER ISLAND creature-feature on @shudder.com! He was nice enough to send us copies of some of his work.

One of the great things about this podcast is connecting with talented and creative folks like this.

July 24, 2025 at 2:06 AM
Next up on the pod - we’re diving into some early Miyazaki with the film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind!

Anyone else find the melting god warrior to be pure nightmare fuel…?
July 18, 2025 at 10:32 PM
Okay, the hype was 100% justified for this one. Cool monsters and absolutely banger tunes.

Finally got the chance to check this out! It’s a brutal, gory and dark fantasy tinged with some solid horror. Love the demons and the world-building. The low budget is sometimes felt, but the scrappiness makes up for it. Lots of fun all around. Go watch it!!
