I keep seeing ppl online dismissing the entire concept of trauma dumping between friends bc "Trauma dumping only happens between strangers, so clearly anyone who says their friends are trauma dumping on them are just"- (11/12)

Can make you feel like a useless ghost, that your actions don't even matter, or it can even make you feel like a bad person bc any attempt to comfort your friend just seems to hurt them more

I'm going in-depth abt this bc I want ppl to know the difference between venting and trauma dumping (10/12)

Or in contrast they'll just outright ignore your kindness and your attempts to comfort them altogether, with them saying, "No one wants to be with me!" Despite the fact that you hang out with them all the time

Obviously, this type of projection and trauma dumping- (9/12)

-your friend is literally bringing up traumatic scenarios 24/7 and blaming YOU for them bringing that shit up

Plus, as you can see in some of the examples I listed, trauma dumpers also often project their trauma onto you, claiming that you're acting just like their abuser (8/12)

-Being labeled as a bad friend. However you shouldn't put up with trauma dumping, even from a friend.

Speaking from experience: a friend CONSTANTLY trauma dumping on you can increase your anxiety, make you view mundane activities negatively, and even trigger your own trauma response bc- (7/12)

(Usually bc they view seeking professional help as a sign of weakness, not bc they don't have the means to seek help)

So they often put the burden of emotional labor and counseling on their friends, and their friends might not tell them to stop bc they're afraid of-(6/12)

-This is bc friends typically WANT to help their friends feel better, and trauma dumpers take advantage of that while never actually letting their friends help/comfort them

Trauma dumpers bring up their trauma endlessly but refuse to go seek professional help- (5/12)

"-just like my abusive husband. He's never communicative and he never wants to do anything with me and when he does do something with me he doesn't talk to me at all. Why does everyone hate me? Why do you hate me?"

Ppl often trauma dump on their friends, not strangers,- (4/12)

"Damn, my seatbelt keeps locking up..."

"I don't like wearing seatbelts, they remind me of a man putting his hands on me."

"Let's go see a movie together!"

That's perfectly normal, HOWEVER it becomes trauma dumping when you relate EVERY TOPIC OF CONVERSATION back to your trauma

Some examples:

"I love going to the beach!"

"I hate going to the beach bc I don't like showing off my ugly disgusting body, I'm a lot like my-" (2/12)

Yeah the adults in Kris' life failed them pretty hard tbh (4/4)

And her allowing Kris to disappear for most of the day is likely how Kris got mixed up with doing Carol's dirty work bc KRIS DOESN'T HAVE A TRUSTED ADULT IN THEIR LIFE THAT CAN STOP THEM FROM DOING STUPID SHIT WITH OTHER ADULTS (3/4)
