In the entire 2000s, there were only 7 non-American or Canadian No. 1s on that chart, from 7 different artists. They are as followed: Lostprophets, Jet, U2, Gorillaz, Seether, Coldplay, Muse

Aften "Teen Spirit", the stats for the next 60 No. 1 Modern Rock songs are as follows:

39 chart toppers by Americans + Canadians, 21 from elsewhere (mostly Brits + Irish)

Then the next 60 No. 1s (from Oct 95 to like late 1999):
50 American + Canadian, 10 from elsewhere

I wanted to see how this was reflected on the billboard charts, namely the formerly named "Modern Rock" chart (it's been Alternative Airplay since 2009), and here are the states.

60 No. 1 songs before "Teen Spirit" - 48 of them are by Brits + Ireland + Australia, 12 of them by USA & Canada
