Episcopal priest with opinions. Anglo-Catholic. Yalie. Actual orthodoxy is diverse, inclusive, and compassionate; otherwise it’s just bigotry in vestments. Opera fan. 🏳️‍🌈 🐈🐈‍⬛

Good church today! We do okay for a town of 8,000 souls. Next week back to “smells & bells” for our feast of title, Christ the King.

So I have a couple of free-range cats who seem to prefer my backyard. Sunshine is ready for Halloween, trying reeeaaallly hard to be scary, while Pepper is not trying, like, at all.

I kind of wish I could pay someone to dress up and hand out candy at my house so I could just go upstairs and read but okay we’re doing this. Grateful my town has defined hours for trick-or-treating, boundaries = good.

A 13 year resident of Manhattan, I was there on *that day,* and, it broke me. It was a sky just like this one (but with skyscrapers), until it wasn’t. Clouds and darkness and thick smoke. Where was God? Right there. Not in the terrible, but in the good, the compassionate, the true.

LESS UGLY, MORE BEAUTY: On a day of such sorrow, angst, rage, fear, and judgment: our altar, set for the Feast of the Holy Cross (Sep. 14). Christ died for all, and was lifted up, that he might draw the whole world to himself. He will not fail in what he was sent to do.

So much ugliness, here’s some beauty: the new communion wine flagon that debuted at my parish this Sunday.

Behold now, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,
you that stand by night in the house of the Lord.

Lift up your hands in the holy place and bless the Lord;
the Lord who made heaven and earth bless you out of Zion.

Psalm 134

There should be something deeply Christian about this image: “Come, let us argue it out, says the LORD” (Isaiah 1:18) And yet I fear this is not about what is holy, righteous, good, and true, but only what is profitable for the few, to the detriment of many. Kyrie eleison.

Curry reminding me that even though I’m on vacation, I really should be praying the novena to Our Lady in anticipation of her feast day. One takes a break from email, phone calls, meetings, and the pulpit, but not devotion.

Sage wondered if there was room for her, too, in my lap, but Curry said “no” (by biting her).

I’m safely back at home after a week’s vacation deep in the wild. It was everything I hoped for. (Hi, God, fancy meeting you here!) My ginger boy yelled at me a lot but apparently I am forgiven. No worries, boo, I’m out of PTO and $ so I’ll be around.

Preaching tomorrow on Ecclesiastes and Curry is like, ugh, vanity of vanities

Spectacular day to get out and enjoy a good long walk! Then my parking break snapped off in my hand. 😒
