I had an interesting conversation on this topic just last night. The potential advantage of patriotism is that it can engender greater engagement in the political process, as opposed to thinking “everything is s**t anyway, so why bother”. The risk is, it can also easily be highjacked by populists.

The problem is, he’s not alone. He is the figurehead with plenty of Americans supporting him.

BTW I also know there are plenty who loath him, which makes me think there is a reasonable chance there will be a civil war.

I don’t expect ever to go back to the US - can’t think of a worse destination.

Meant to include a link to an FT article, but I don’t appear to be able to make it work…

This is one of the cleverest bits of graphic design I’ve ever seen. Some people are pure geniuses.

BTW, does the 25% on foreign cars apply on top of the individual country tariffs? Just curious. It’s insane either way…

Thank you for enduring this on our behalf. I personally don’t have the stomach to even watch.

Your live tweeting is on a par with Ian Dunt’s during the hay days of Brexit. The humour makes the whole shit show that little bit more bearable…

Not sure this will stick long term. All the current policies look highly inflationary to me. It may take a few months for the effects to percolate through, but I still can’t see the Fed cutting rates any time soon.
