This article is freely available and part of our September digital magazine issue about how the Trump administration has upended international relations and increased existential risk.

You should read it. It's very good.

A few days apart, two diametrically opposed views about Australia's security.

LEFT: NATO/US' alignment view. / RIGHT: China/Australia's sovereignty view.

Who's right?

We don't speak enough about the frequently impaired health of leaders of nuclear weapon states.

But are some in Tehran or elsewhere right now? 🤔

🚨 First rendering of the US Air Force's AGM-181A Long-Range Standoff (LRSO) nuclear-armed cruise missile.

The AGM-181A will arm the B-52H Stratofortress and the incoming B-21 Raider bombers, the first time a US stealth bomber will carry a nuclear cruise missile.

Marcel Ophuls, an Oscar-winning, German-born French filmmaker, died this Memorial Day weekend.

Among his many powerful political documentaries, "The Sorrow and the Pity" (1969) exposed how some French were accomodating to the Nazi occupation as long as they were not personally affected.

You know you are probably too much into nukes when you start seeing a missing "C" in sentences like these.

New report by @deloitteinsights.bsky.social assesses potential of nuclear energy to meet future demand from US data centers. It's not even close.

10% contribution max by 2030, even in a very optimistic scenario in which 1/3rd of new nuclear capacity goes to data centers.

In both cases, Emmanuel Macron is largely contributing to the political-institutional crisis:

- 80% of French declare being alarmed by the political chaos since he dissolved the National Assembly.

- Two judicial investigations are ongoing over the financing of his presidential bids in 2017 & 2022.

Two alarming news from France 🇫🇷 in a single day:

#1 - A @cevipof.bsky.social public poll finds that the French express distrust in politicians "at a level never measured before," with only 28% considering that democracy works well and 74% declaring politicians are corrupt.

(For comparison, the United States maintains a stockpile of approximately 3,700 warheads.)
February 6, 2025 at 9:28 PM
No, China isn't going to have the same amount of nuclear warheads as the United States in "5 or 6 years", Mr. President.

Not even close.

Despite F.A.A. report of understaffed control tower, seems like the controller did the job right. All points now to a possible lack of safeguards involving the Army helicopter—either absence/dysfunctional collision avoidance system, pilots not wearing night-vision goggles, or blinded by city lights.
