If you would get only one to play only with wife, would you get this or the OG?

Where do you rank this amongst other felds?

It's bad enough someone feels like that in this day and age (although we seem to be going backwards) but taking the time to go online and say this shit it's next level hate spread.

What's the ideal player count?

I was too mesmerised by the tunnels, I didn't seem them :) well, if there is a game worth upgrading is UC - the player board of the base game are just a joke. I'm gonna have a look to see if I can find the tunnels.

Was ark nova on your top 40? How did it age with repeated plays? Have you tried the expansion? What player count?

Marrakesh. River of gold. To a lesser extent endeavour deep sea (still like it a lot but I loved it after first few plays).

On the other hand, hard games are usually not characterised as fun but FOR ME they are more fun than games usually characterised as "fun" because I like hard puzzles. But I would still not characterise them as fun. I hope that makes sense xD

I do think we have to understand what fun means. When I heard a game is fun, what I usually hear is "a game where you have a lot of dopamine inducing feel-good moves". I also feel these games are the ones that usually fall flat with repeated games the fastest.

My no. 1 game, this game is so much fun and satisfying. I love the engine building aspect of the game and the card/slot action selection mecanism. BTW, those tunnels look neat! I have some small submarines to use instead of the door cardboard pieces.

While game like underwater cities or teotihuacan where the board is more omnidirectional I sit across. Silly thing but jumped out to me when looking at the setup :)
September 19, 2025 at 7:14 AM
In this type of games, where the game setup has a clear direction, you rather play across the table from other player and put the setup sideways than play on the same side of the table? Games like this, GAH, endeavour deep sea, etc I sit on the same side and make the setup "right" for both players.

I'm very excited about evacuation but I know some people bounced hard off it or found the first games to be a real struggle. I'm still hopeful though. I'm still going through the first plays of GAH and i think that scratches a similar itch to woodcraft so decided to tackle it later.
September 18, 2025 at 10:54 AM
I have woodcraft and evacuation sitting on my shelf to punch out and play. I can't decide which one to go for first :)

You should play more Newton. Everything looks beautiful after that :p

Is that a bunch of yodas inside a viking boat? I'm very confused xD Looks cool but starts to fall in the filler territory which is not necessarily a bad thing. I was also looking into Wayfarers but I think I remember you guys being divided on it. Did you get that back into the table since?

Do they have any that work at 2p as well? Saw AotWK I'd poorly evaluated at 2.
August 29, 2025 at 7:22 AM
Never played any garphill - do you have a favourite?
August 29, 2025 at 7:10 AM
Here are some other ideas for future episodes: Resafa, Civolution, Evacuation, Tea Garden, Galileo Galilei, Men-Nefer, Sankore, Zhanguo, Speakeasy (Lacerda) :p

Tascini is another designer you might want to take a look. Teotihuacan is still one of my favourite games. They designed a few together - tzolk'in, tiletum, Marco polo...

Saltfjord. The few reviews I saw were quite good but not many are out. Would love to hear your take on it.
August 11, 2025 at 9:30 AM
I feel every time I listen to one of your episodes a new game gets added to my "Want to Buy" list xD
August 5, 2025 at 1:25 PM
I found it very interesting that you picked Tiletum. I am a huge T-game fan and was very interested in this game but cooled off on it after some lukewarm reviews. Tim, how would you rank this compared to the best T-games: Tzolk'in, Teotihuacan and Tekhenu? Have you tried the expansion?
August 5, 2025 at 10:52 AM
I can't believe you didn't ask her for a top 5!! Great episode but we all know the whole point was to see if Danielle would go with Tim to the next convention xD

Funny we have such opposite feelings on those two games ahah. I will try Lorenzo a few more games, I think I just need to have more faith in the game (ba-dum-txxxx).
