Definitely agree about in-person encounters. Some of the scimitar-horned oryx on our south Texas ranch. They find us almost as fascinating as we find them (though in their case it's probably because they're prey animals).

Oryx mother, with calf, on high alert. We saw a coyote in the vicinity.

One of our scimitar-horned oryx, caught on a remote camera dropping by the ranch house. He looks quite pleased with himself.
