As of April 22, 2025, there have been 973 human cases of the avian influenza A(H5N1) worldwide, including 470 deaths since 2003.

In early April, infection with A(H5N1) virus was reported in a two-year-old girl who died in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
